leprechaunChildren love leprechauns and St. Patrick’s Day, so take advantage of this to entice them to write. This leprechaun writing prompt incorporates point of view and narrative writing for elementary school students.

pot-of-goldPrompt: There’s a legend that says every leprechaun has a pot of gold in a secret place. If captured, he must give up his golden treasure. Write a short story from the leprechaun’s point of view explaining how he feels about getting caught and giving up his treasure. Remember: It’s not easy to catch a leprechaun, and they are very tricky! What kind of tricks does he play to avoid being captured, and how does he get caught (for example, a leprechaun trap)? When you edit, use a dictionary for correct spelling and a thesaurus to find more powerful words to better express what you are trying to convey.  Make sure your writing is neat, and that you use capital letters and end marks.
